H1N1 (swine flu) is a new virus that causes illness in people. Because the virus is new, most people don’t have immunity to it. H1N1 is spreading from person to person worldwide, similar to the way seasonal flu spreads. H1N1 vaccine is widely available at provider offices, clinics, and pharmacies throughout Southwest Washington. Although H1N1 influenza cases have declined recently, future outbreaks are possible. Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent catching and spreading H1N1 flu and everyone is urged to get vaccinated.
